The Dutch Sailing Federation meets Thierry at his kiteboarding club: Jumpteam in Scheveningen
After the Paralympic Games London 2012, 2.4mR sailor Thierry Schmitter completely changed tack. He swaps to kiteboarding. Obviously not standing but sited. In 1998, during climbing a frozen waterfall, in Switzerland an avalanche sweeps him. He falls 60 meters, breaking his back and remains paraplegic to the waist down.
Schmitter is one of the few athletes in the world who does kiteboarding sited.
"For me it is also more pioneering than competition," says Schmitter. "I am more busy with improving my skills and developing new material. The next step is to teach other people. "
